I had the privilege of collaborating with Ashwin, a techno DJ thriving in the underground electronic music scene, to develop his personal brand. The brand is centered around themes of darkness, mystery, and euphoria, reflecting Ashwin's reputation for crafting mind-bending audio-visual experiences that blend cutting-edge techno beats with haunting melodies and hypnotic rhythms.
The approach
Inspiration struck after witnessing the electrifying lights during Ashwin's performances, which informed the logo's concept. The design symbolizes the dynamic fusion of music and visuals, encapsulating movement, rhythm, and the pulsating energy that defines his DJ sets. To personalize the brand, I subtly merged Ashwin’s initials “A” with the visual representation of dynamic lights. At the core of the logo is a symbol of lights that evolved into a dynamic pattern, serving as a signature element across all branding materials to create coherence and ensure recognizability throughout Ashwin's brand narrative.
Challenges
The selection of a color palette played a crucial role in shaping the brand's identity. I meticulously chose a gradient featuring fiery orange, deep dark grey, and ethereal light grey. Orange symbolizes the vibrant energy of Ashwin's music, while black evokes a sense of darkness, and light grey provides contrast. Additionally, I selected typography that conveys modernity and sophistication, ensuring the logo's adaptability across various mediums. This comprehensive approach aimed to create a cohesive and engaging brand identity for Ashwin that resonates with his audience.
